Bowling Team Gets First Win of Season

The Stonehill College Bowling team competed in the Big Red Invitational Tournament at Cornell University this weekend.  It was the first tournament of the season for the team.  In individual play, five bowlers played through six rounds, with a total team score accumulated at the end. The team recorded several solid scores on their way to a total of 4,571 total pins.  Higher scores included: Chris Brodeur with a score of 178, Alex Coppola with a game of 180, and Pat Riordan with a team high score of 202.  In Sunday’s team event, Stonehill defeated Niagara CCC by 48 pins for its first win of the season.  Leading the team were Mike Astuccio with six strikes and eight spares, while Lisa Lombardini added five strikes and seven spares on the day.  Mike Astuccio’s individual average of 178 led the team for the weekend and was good for 69th place out of 122 bowlers.  Coach Ray Fischer summed up the team performance saying, “Everyone had a great time and we’re already excited for our next tournament.  I look forward to seeing the team grow and continue to improve on their individual and team results.”  The team’s next tournament will be at the Viking Classic in Wallingford, Connecticut on January 22, 2012.
