Cats Roll in Indoor Field Hockey Play

In this week’s Indoor Field Hockey games of the week, six teams squared off in league play.  With divisional playoffs right around the corner each game was crucial for each of these teams in their quest for a postseason berth.  In the first game, the Bobcats (2-2) and Misfits (1-3) took to the floor in each team’s final division match.  Getting off to a great start were the Bobcats who scored the opening two goals of the game.  Meaghan McCarthy and Anna Meleski were first on the scoresheet for the Bobcats, and their precision passing allowed them to get several opportunities in front of goal.  Responding just before the halftime whistle was Misfits’, Ali Shea, whose solo effort put her team just two back heading into the break.  With the score at 3-1 in favor of the Bobcats, both teams were still neck and neck.
In the second half, the Bobcats really opened up the field and the score line, tallying five goals in the half.  Liz Crannel, Stephanie Habib and Anna Meleski all scored for the Bobcats, while teammate Meaghan McCarthy finished off her hat-trick on the last possession of the game.  The final score in this one was 8-2, as the Bobcats earned a playoff spot and the Misfits troublesome defense saw their season finish early.
In the second division game to decide a playoff spot, The Thundercats (3-1) took on Fresh Meat (0-4).  This game was almost over before it started, as the Thundercats struck with five goals in the opening six minutes.  The Thundercats Kayla Green and Heather Sullivan recorded hat-tricks in the first half, while goals from Emily Flaherty and Brittany Ford added to the score.  At halftime, the Thundercats were ahead, 8-0.  In the second half, The Thundercats continued to pour on the offense and sent Fresh Meat home winless this season, as they went on to win 16-0.
In the final game of the night, Wheaties (2-2) competed against Fanny Packs (4-0).  With both teams comprised of seniors, it was the final chance for both teams to make the playoffs before graduation.  Fanny Packs were first on the board with goals from Brian Sullivan and Kaylie Jacinto.  Wheaties player, Maggie Seaver responded with two goals of her own in the half, but Fanny Packs scored a total of five times to take a 5-3 lead heading into the half.
In the second half, Fanny Packs played flawless defense and didn’t allow Wheaties any goals in the half.  Caitlin O’Keefe and Lanie Hammer were among the goal scorers for Fanny Packs, as they went on to win by a score of 9-3.
