Hill Bowling Team Defeats Westchester CC in Second Tournament

The Stonehill College Bowling Team took part in the second annual Viking Classic Tournament in Wallingford, Connecticut this weekend.  This was the first tournament of the spring semester for the team after they took part in the Big Red Invitational at Cornell this past November.  The one day tournament included some of the top schools in New England, including Briarcliffe (ranked top 25 nationally), Suffolk University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Sacred Heart University.  The format featured singles, doubles, and team (Baker’s style) bowling.

Beginning the tournament with singles bowling, Mike Astuccio led the way for Hill with a high game of 201. Alex Coppola chipped in with a 199, while Pat Riordan added a 183.  In the doubles competition, Lisa Lombardini played exceptionally well tallying scores of 174 and 170, while Chris Brodeur contributed a 136.  In the Baker’s style, team event, five players from each team played two frames each for one total team score.  Despite some early struggles, the team rebounded for high games of 167 and 220, finishing with a total of 1474 pins in ten Baker games to gain a victory over Westchester CC.

Team Coach Ray Fischer recapped the team’s performance saying, “I was proud of the way the team played today.  We still have a lot to work on, but despite tough lane conditions today, we continue to improve.  We’re looking forward to a couple more tournaments this semester, and a strong showing in our next tournament in New York in two weeks.”  Hill Bowling will head to Wappinger Falls, NY for their second tournament of the semester on February 5th.
