Das Mooseracers knock off Immigrants in opening night IM Basketball tilt
The opening night games for the Men’s and Women’s 5
v 5 basketball season got underway Monday in the Ames Sports
Complex. In the featured game of the night, Men’s DII
teams, Das Mooseracers took on Immigrants. The game started
very evenly with Immigrants scoring nearly half of their points via
the three-point basket. Immigrant players Ross McWilliams and
Cory Adams combined for five three-pointers in the first half while
their opposition got to the foul line eight times, converting
four. The first half ended with a score of 27-20 in favor of
Immigrants. The leading scorers were Immigrants’ Ross
McWilliams with 12 points and Mooseracers’ Ryan Ford with 10
points.
The second half heated up with Mooseracers going on a big run to
tie the game 43-43 with just six minutes remaining. Das
Mooseracers’, Ryan Ford, dominated with 15 points in the
second half. On the other side of the ball, Immigrants
struggled with their foul shooting throughout, going 3 of 8 from
the line. As the game winded down, Das Mooseracer John Lars
Carlson, converted a key three point play to give his team a one
point edge, forcing Immigrants to foul with under a minute
remaining. After missing a couple of free throws the final
one was converted for a 52-49 victory Player of the game and
leading scorer was Mooseracers’ Ryan Ford, who had 25
points.
In other action, Men’s DII teams, The Cucumbers squared off
against the Blouses. Despite a 14 point effort from
Blouses’ Nate McBeath, the Blouses were out-rebounded and
faced a 19-14 first half deficit. Cucumbers’ Billy Karalis
added 11 points, going a perfect 3-3 from the field in the second
half, leading his team to a 36-31 win.
In the other two Men’s DII games, Langis Lodge defeated Tiny
Walrus Guy by a score of 53-27, behind 20 points from Matt McCoy
and 14 points from Trevor Giroux. Jon Soo Legends and Lisa
Anne also had a competitive game with Jon Soo Legends’ Ryan
Coene leading his team to a 38-25 win.
In Women’s action, Waste Management disposed of Domination
Nation by a score of 50-22, with Waste Management’s Kelly
Reardon scoring 14 and teammate Chelsea Stryker. While the
Lady Rebels edged out SCWR in the final seconds by a score of
28-27, with Rebel Erin Leo scoring 10 points.
