Men's Lacrosse loses heartbreaker to Coast Guard in battle for second place
On a Wednesday April 14th, Stonehill
Men’s Lacrosse traveled to Coast Guard Academy under tough
circumstances. This huge league battle for second place and a
1st round bye, was supposed to be played at home, but
had to be changed to Coast Guard at the last minute. Jumping
out quickly, however, Stonehill was able to take a 3-0 first period
lead on goals by Tom Higgins, Conor Green, and Colin Lancey.
Carrying their momentum into the second quarter, a 13 shot
onslaught brought Stonehill three additional goals; however, Coast
Guard was able to get on the board with two goals of their own and
at the break the score was 6-2.
As the second half
began, Coast Guard would take advantage of the tiring Hill team as
they would pump in three quick goals to tighten the game, and put
Stonehill on its heels. The Purple and Black would respond
with two quick markers of their own, as the back and forth affair
would head into the fourth period with Stonehill hanging on to a
slim 9-8 lead.
With all to play for and the game up for grabs,
Stonehill started the fourth quarter with a quick goal by Bobby
Flippin. Coast Guard answered with a string of three
consecutive goals to take the lead, and when Stonehill tied up the
game, Coast Guard would score one final late goal for the game
winner. The heartbreak of the one goal loss was felt by all,
as Stonehill had played one of their best games of the
season. Stonehill (3-2 in their division), will look to
rebound in their next game at home against UNH on April 21.
