Men’s Volleyball drops opening match heartbreaker to tournament host Assumption

On Saturday, February 6th, the Men's Volleyball team traveled to Assumption College for the NECVL Division II Central tournament with high hopes of pulling off an opening match upset of the host team.  Coming off their previous showing in the Marty Open at Boston University, the team's expectations were much higher, as the 0-4 finish did not tell the story of the competitiveness of the young team.  As the opening match began, it was apparent the team was improving, continually battling back time and time again in both sets as they pushed the home team to the limits, eventually losing 26-24, 27-25.

In their second match, the team from the Hill came out emotionally flat against Holy Cross, falling 25-12 in game one.  Game two was a different story as Stonehill found the drive and jumped out quickly on the Crusaders, but once again they were nipped in the end 25-20.

In match number three, a tired and depleted team played their hardest but was not able to overcome the strong WPI team, falling 25-9, 25-11. "Overall, the team did consistently well this weekend getting stronger with each approach and hit," commented Head Coach Lindsay Nastri, "We had a noticeable improvement on blocks against some hard hitting opponents which helped the team keep games close."  Next up for the team is a trip to CCRI on Saturday 2/13 for another divisional tournament.
