Both Softball Championship games go to the wire as Dream Team and Surprise Me! win titles

In the Men’s Championship, Captain Dan Corbin’s Surprise Me! team rallied from deficits of 6 and 7 to win by one run over Flamesbury on Wednesday afternoon on the Rec Fields.  Flamesbury, with a balanced attack scored 3 runs in the first and two in both the second and third innings to stake a 7-1 lead after 4.  In the fifth Mike Goretti, Jeff Griswold, Nick Ianazza and Jay Ardizoni, all scored for Surprise Me! to close the gap to 7-5, but Flamesbury would plate five more runs in the top of the 6th to lead 12-5.  The bottom of the 6th, however, would be the turning point as Surprise Me!  jumped all over their opponents, sending 11 men to the plate and scoring 8 runs for a 13-12 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh, the stunned Flamesbury squad could manage no hits, as they were retired in order by the Champs.

The Co-rec final amazingly ended with the same score, 13-12, but this one was a back and forth affair with A.J. Noto’s The Dream Team coming out victorious with a walk off seventh inning victory over the Tigers.  In the top half of the first, the Tigers plated five runs, but they were matched by 5 from the Dream Team in the bottom of the inning.  Both teams traded single runs in the second, but the Tigers were able to take a short lived lead when John Gelcius scored the third inning’s lone run, and when, Noto, Shannon Connors and Pat Kelaher all scored in the bottom of the 4th the game was even once again at 9-9.  Matching scoring lines in the 5th and 6th made the score 10-10, and when the Tigers scored two in the top of the seventh, the championship looked to be theirs.  In the bottom of the seventh, however, Elisabeth Karafotias, Ethan Collins, and Meredith Eno would cross the plate, and the Dream Team would walk off with the win.
