Ever improving Men’s Volleyball closes out season with two match victories at Regional Qualifier in Queen’s New York

Dropping their first nine matches of the season, it would have been easy for men's Volleyball to pack it in, but the young team, having just one senior, found its competitive drive in the latter part of the year.  "The Men had a great day," boasted Head Coach Lindsay Nastri,"  Everyone played together at all times.  While this team often has few standout players during each match, this tournament was different.  Everyone wanted to win at all times, and everyone showed great enthusiasm."

Heading to the Regional Qualifier at St. John's University on the heels of their lone victory of the season, the Men were looking to carry their momentum forward.  In their first match, they once again defeated Clark, this time by scores of 25-20 and 26-24.   Next up was the Coast Guard, and the purple and black continued to roll on.  A hard fought first set 26-24, was followed by a dominating 25-19 second set, and the team was quickly 2-0 in matches out of the gate.

In their third match, a very competitive UMASS-Lowell would jump all over the men from the outset, knocking Stonehill into the loser's bracket with a resounding two set victory, 25-15 and 25-17.  SCSU would follow and it seemed the men were running out of gas as they were beaten handily by the Owls, 25-18 and 25-14.

Showing the same resiliency they had all season, the Men refused to quit, and in their finale they would face off against tournament hosts St. Johns in an epic match.  Jumping out to a first set victory 25-22, the men seemed in good position for the win, but a close loss in the second set, 25-23 would even up the match.  The third set would be a back and forth affair with the team from New York edging Stonehill 15-13, effectively ending the season for the Men.  With only one senior, the future is bright for this team as they will look to improve on an exciting end of the '10 season.
