Men’s Volleyball Starts Strong in First Divisional Tournament
Competing in their first Divisional Tournament of the year,
Stonehill got their first taste of regular season play this weekend
at Assumption College, in Worcester, MA. Starting off with a
strong team performance in their first match against Tufts,
Stonehill routed the Jumbos 25-16, 25-14. Junior Eric Franco
had key kills in the match and several game changing plays that
help lead his team to the victory. He also led the team in
blocks for the day.
In their second and third games, Stonehill dropped close decisions
to Assumption (25-16, 25-14) and WPI (25-15, 25-22). Despite
the losses, several takeaways came from the games. Freshman
Jen McBrine and Sophomore Maggie Ross both turned in stellar
performances setting up the team’s offense.
Additionally, Junior Brian Consoles and Senior captain Derek
Marchand, played well for the team, tallying several crucial kills
and digs for the team, and serving as a strong force in the back
row.
The team will continue league play with their second Division
Tournament on February 18th, at Bryant University in
Rhode Island against, CCRI, Clark, Bryant, and Holy
Cross.
