Stonehill Takes over first place in battle of unbeatens

Sunday October 4th presented the Women with their biggest test of the season yet.  They were matched up against undefeated division rivals Boston College (2-1), in a game that would determine the overall first place team in the division and could set them up with a home playoff game in three weeks.
On a muddy, rain soaked field, Stonehill (3-0) started slow, with B.C. holding much of the possession and attack for the first 20 minutes.  A well timed kick placed the hill women deep in their own end, and on the ensuing 5 meter scrum, the B.C # 8 picked the ball weak side, and off loaded to her fullback who broke through the Stonehill defense to touch down for a 5-0 lead.

10 minutes later, the purple and black finally awoke.  Junior flanker Ashley George took a pass from junior scrumhalf Maeghan Kilfoil and burst through the BC defense to score from thirty meters out.  Junior Fly-half Laura Fischer converted from deep in the corner to give the ladies a huge momentum boost and a 7-5 lead at the half.

The ladies kept the halftime momentum rolling into the second half, with the majority of play on BC's side of the 50 meter line.  Fischer would increase the lead to 10-5 in the 62 minute with a 25 meter penalty kick, and the continued Hill defensive pressure stymied the Eagle attack at every turn.  In the dying moments, junior wing Deborah Caruso, tracked down a cross field kick from Fischer, calmly offloading the ball in a tackle to senior Outside Center Alyssa Bibeau, who would break free from the defense and race 40 meters untouched for the final score.  Fischer's conversion would just miss, but the final whistle would blow 2 minutes later and the ladies had their third consecutive win to start the season. Coach Derek Jenesky, reflected on the Women's season thus far when he stated, "To be 3-0 after three games this season is very exciting.  We lost seven important starters from last year's team, and we weren't sure how this year's team was going to react but the girl's have really stepped it up.
