7 different ladies score trys as #12 ranked Women’s Rugby dominates Bryant University

With 7 tries scored and 7 different scorers on the day the Women’s Rugby team spread the wealth en route to a 43-0 win over Bryant University, in Rhode Island on Saturday morning.

Senior Ashley George scored on a run down the sideline 9 minutes into the contest, and although the conversion was no good, the ladies had the lead they love to play with.  10 minutes later the lead would grow as Junior Fiona Lunney broke free from 25 meters out to score under the goalposts.  Senior Laura Fischer converted for a 12-0 start, which was followed by Senior Maeghan Kilfoil’s heads up steal and dive across the corner for an unconverted try near the end of the half.

With a 19-0 lead at the break, the Ladies came out determined to put their opponents away.  10 minutes in, Sophomore Morgan Segale touched down off a nice maul to re assert the momentum.  Sophomore Emily Helming would be the fifth different scorer as she scored off some nice back line passing for the 29-0 lead.  Freshman Shannon Dowdle scored her first ever Stonehill try 20 minutes from time, and when Fischer blasted through the conversion the ladies were on their way.  Senior Katie O’Malley would finish the scoring on the day, scampering 70 meters down the sideline for the final converted try, making the final 43-0.  “All in all great effort for the ladies today,” commented Coach Derek Jenesky,” We are right where we wanted to be at 3-0 after 3 games.  Our two toughest tests still lie ahead in Coast Guard and URI, but we will enjoy this one for the day and get back to work on Monday.”

The ladies next game will be Saturday October 9th at 11:00am @ the Coast Guard.
